Planned Parenthood Northern California (PPNorCal) is seeking a Volunteer Coordinator for our Concord Administrative office. This role is full-time, 40 hours per week. Summary

Planned Parenthood Northern California (PPNorCal) is seeking an engaging, compassionate, energetic, detail-oriented, highly organized individual to join the Government Relations team as the Volunteer Coordinator. Working closely with the Vice President of Government Relations and Communications and the Senior Government Relations Officer, the Volunteer Coordinator focuses on the recruitment, screening, training, and other management of Planned Parenthood Northern California (PPNorCal) and Planned Parenthood Northern California Action Fund’s (PPNorCalAF) robust volunteer programs and assisting with other government relations responsibilities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee volunteer recruiting efforts, including applications and email requests.
  • Provide operational support and functional support to all department programs including volunteer recruitment, screenings, placement, orientation, training, and guidance.
  • Collaborate with the Human Resources Department to process, organize and maintain volunteer applications, including background checks and verifications.
  • Develop training materials and information sessions and update as needed.
  • Work with staff to organize regular volunteer training sessions as needed.
  • Create, implement, and oversee annual volunteer events (i.e. Capitol Day)
  • Oversee a volunteer recognition program, including awards and events as appropriate.
  • Facilitate excellent communications with and between volunteers while developing, building, and maintaining positive, long-term relationships.
  • Maintain a robust volunteer database.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university; or one to three years related experience and/or training in campaigns or legislative activities; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or business community members. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

COMPUTER SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft software; Web savvy including basic knowledge of social media.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Preferred but not required: reliable automobile transportation and a valid California Driver's License and insurance.

OTHER SKILLS, ABILITIES, QUALIFICATIONS

  • One or more years’ experience with volunteer and/or event coordination or community organizing.
  • Must be a self-starter with a collaborative attitude and must be able to work independently or as a team member.
  • Possess good written, verbal, record keeping, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a very fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and possesses strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Personable and able to develop a positive rapport with individuals while maintaining a strong sense of professionalism.
  • Confident to speak in public or virtually to small and large groups of community members in a variety of settings such as Zoom, Facebook live or in person gatherings.
  • Ability to build collaborative working practices with multiple community stakeholders.
  • Good computer skills and ability to work with different computer applications including Google Suite, Microsoft Suite, VAN, PDI, and DocuSign.
  • Commitment to quality healthcare and PPNorCal’s mission, with knowledge of reproductive health issues and policies strongly preferred.
  • Willing to work on some weekends and late evenings as needed.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish/other a plus.

Pay Range: Planned Parenthood Northern California (PPNorCal) supports California’s new law (SB 1162) enhancing pay transparency. This new law requires employers with 15 or more employees to include a pay range in job postings. The pay range reflects the compensation that a new employee can expect to receive if offered employment. Employees with more experience, education, and other qualifying factors may be compensated at a higher rate of pay. The pay range for this position is: $66,560 - $70,000 annualized salary.
